KARIMNAGAR, AUGUST 14, 2026: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced a range of new customer-focussed initiatives and discounted plans under its ‘Freedom 2.0’ scheme to mark the 80th Independence Day.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday, BSNL Integrated Karimnagar district Deputy General Manager Ponnam Ajay Kumar said that as a special offer for Independence Day, new BSNL SIM cards can be purchased for ₹1 from August 12 to September 12. A new connection offers 1 GB of data and 100 SMS per day with unlimited free voice calls for 24 days.
He also said that BSNL has introduced the Fibre Freedom Plan at a special introductory price of Rs. 1,111 per month. The plan offers internet speeds of up to 200 Mbps, 5,000 GB monthly data and access to more than 25 premium OTT platforms.
As part of its digital entertainment services, BSNL mobile subscribers can access BSNL Entertainment TV, powered by Tango, free of cost through the BSNL Selfcare App. The service provides access to live television channels and on-demand entertainment content through mobile devices.
Satellite Phone services
BSNL has also highlighted its Global Satellite Phone Service (GSPS), which uses satellite connectivity to provide voice communication in locations where conventional terrestrial mobile networks may not be available.
The service is aimed particularly at remote and geographically challenging areas and communication-sensitive locations, reinforcing BSNL’s role in extending connectivity across diverse terrains. BSNL said the initiatives were aimed at enhancing customer experience, expanding digital services and making advanced connectivity and entertainment more accessible and affordable.
Nationwide 4G expansion
BSNL has further strengthened its mobile network by placing orders for more than 26,300 additional 4G Base Transceiver Station (BTS) sites for development across India. The expansion is expected to extend BSNL’s 4G presence to more towns, villages and remote areas. The network is built on an indigenous technology platform that is designed to be upgraded to 5G in the future.
Revamped BSNL Selfcare App
BSNL has launched an upgraded version of its BSNL Selfcare mobile application for Android and iOS users. The revamped app brings several customer services onto one digital platform, including prepaid recharges, postpaid and landline bill payments, complaint registration and tracking, DND management, payment history and Fibre booking requests. It also features AI chatbot assistance, voice search, multiple-account management and access to BSNL entertainment TV.
