CM and Union Minister discuss the PMO’s response to the letter written to the PM on Tummidihetti
CR Patil assures to initiate a dialogue between the two states
NEW DELHI, AUGUST 05, 2026:Â Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy urged Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil to arrange a meeting between the Telangana and Maharashtra governments on the long-pending issue of raising the height of the Tummidihetti barrage on the Pranahita river.
Accompanied by Telangana Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, the Chief Minister met with CR Patil at his office in Delhi on Wednesday. During the meeting, the CM briefed the Union Minister on the importance of increasing the barrage’s height without significant submergence issues in Maharashtra.
CM Revanth Reddy brought to the attention of CR Patil the necessity of the construction of Tummidihetti barrage and also the letter he wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking approvals, as well as the subsequent communication from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) forwarding the matter to the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
The Chief Minister informed the Union Minister that an agreement had previously been reached between the two states to construct the barrage at Tummidihetti with a height of 148 meters. The Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS), Pune, had also conducted a study regarding the construction of a barrage at Tummidihetti with a height ranging from 148 to 152 meters.
The CM explained the outcome of the study, CR Pail. The study report said that there will be no significant difference in the extent of submergence whether the barrage was built at a height of 148 meters or 152 meters. Further, 50 per cent of the submerged area would lie within the riverbed itself.
Requesting the Union Minister to persuade Maharashtra to agree to a barrage height of 150 to 152 meters, the CM informed Patil that a height of 148 meters would not allow for sufficient water supply via gravity from the barrage. Constructing the barrage at a height of 150 to 152 meters at Tummidihetti would enable water supply through gravity. The importance of the gravity-based supply, which would ease the burden of electricity consumption, was discussed in the meeting.
In view of the increasing irrigation needs in Telangana, CMÂ Revanth Reddy requested Jal Shakti Minister to arrange a meeting between Telangana and Maharashtra at the earliest. The completion of the Tummidihetti barrage would provide irrigation facilities to the underdeveloped erstwhile Adilabad district.
Responding to the CM’s plea, the Union Minister said that his ministry has received the letter from the Prime Minister’s Office. A meeting would be organised first under the leadership of the Central Water Commission (CWC) to initiate dialogue between officials from Telangana and Maharashtra. The Union Minister further assured the CM that a meeting between the Irrigation Ministers of Telangana and Maharashtra would be arranged subsequently.
Telangana MPs– Dr. Mallu Ravi, Vem Narendar Reddy, Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy, Porika Balram Naik, Gaddam Vamsi Krishna, M. Anil Yadav, and Dr. Kadiyam Kavya, State Government’s Special Representative in Delhi, A.P. Jitender Reddy, Irrigation Advisor Adityanath Das, Principal Secretary to Irrigation E. Sridhar were also present in the meeting.
CM appeals Union Minister for Environment for clearances for Palamuru-Rangareddy, Seethamma sagar and Dindi projects
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy appealed to Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, to grant environmental clearances for the Palamuru-Rangareddy, Gauravelli, Seethamma Sagar, and Dindi projects immediately.
During the meeting with the Union Minister at the Parliament on Wednesday, the Chief Minister explained the requirement of the environmental clearances for the completion of the three project works expeditiously. The CM informed the union minister that the government has already spent ₹36,437 crore on the Palamuru project, ₹3,187 crore on the Dindi Lift Irrigation scheme, ₹1,835 crore on Seethamma Sagar, and ₹1,350 crore on the Gouravelli project. Stalling of the project works due to lack of clearances and escalation of the project cost was also brought to the notice of the Union Minister.
Following the recent Supreme Court verdict, CM Revanth Reddy requested Bhupender Yadav to immediately grant clearances for the projects.
