KARIMNAGAR, JULY 30, 2026: Students of Manair educational institutions in Karimnagar town organised a mehendi celebration on the occasion of the Ashadam month celebration. The students and teachers participated in the competitions with full zeal and enthusiasm on Thursday.
Staff and students plucked leaves from henna plants from their houses, the market and the ground to make a paste, and applied it to their hands. In the meeting organised to create awareness among the younger generation about the age-old tradition of henna application and its significance on health, school director K Sunitha Reddy said that henna is being applied by all people irrespective of religion because of its traditional beliefs and uses, which gives a sense of joy and happiness.
She explained in detail about the henna plant, whose scientific name is Lawsonia inermis. The action of the chemical compound Lawsone produces the orange-red stain on skin. She explained that using henna on hands and feet helps to fight bacterial and fungal infections in this rainy season.
The cooling properties provide relief from heat and headaches and soothe irritated skin. Application on hair and scalp helps to fight dandruff, strengthens the hair follicle, providing natural shine to hair, preventing premature greying of hair and acting as a natural colourant.
Students and staff members enthusiastically applied henna to their hands. A mehandi design competition was also organised in which students applied intricate patterns on each other’s hands.
