NIRMAL, JULY 30, 2026: The irrigation officials have lifted six gates of the Kadem project in Nirmal district to release 48,000 cusecs of water downstream on Thursday.
The project is receiving inflows of 73,000 cusecs of water from its upstream areas, and the inflows were expected to increase following the incessant rains. Its catchment areas, especially in Nasik and its surrounding Maharashtra state, were receiving heavy rainfall.
Nirmal Superintendent of Police Dr G Janaki Sharmila visited the Kadem project and reviewed the flood situation with the irrigation and police officials. In the wake of continuous rainfall for another two to three days, the SP informed the people residing in the downstream of the project area to be careful and asked shepherds and fishermen not to venture into the river till the water levels recede.
She also warned the people against taking selfie pictures and risking their lives at the overflowing water bodies. She said that the Blue Colts and Petrocar police personnel would be monitoring the situation at all water bodies to avoid any untoward incidents.
Additional Collector B Venkateshwarlu, DRDO project director Vijayalaxmi, Khanapur municipal commissioner Sunder Singh, Kadem project EE Praveen Kumar, Nirmal DSP Srinivas and others were also present.
