Mr Prabhakar introduced JNNURM local bus services in Karimnagar town in the year 2013
KARIMNAGAR, JULY 30, 2026: The long-cherished dream of local bus services in Karimnagar town, which is growing in leaps and bounds, would be fulfilled on July 30 evening with the formally flagging off by Minister for Transport Ponnam Prabhakar at RTC bus station complex in Karimnagar town on July 30 evening.
The City Metro Express buses would be operated between Karimnagar and Nusthullapur, Karimnagar to Chintakunta and Karimnagar and Kothapalli. These bus services would be of immense help to the commuters, such as students, employees, women and senior citizens, to travel at an affordable cost and with complete safety. RTC managing director Y Nagi Reddy and others would also attend.
It may be mentioned here that Mr Ponnam Prabhakar, when he was Karimnagar MP, had introduced local buses in Karimnagar town by deploying JNNURM (Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission) buses funded by the Union Government. During the year 2013, Mr Prabhakar had ensured that the central government sanctioned 50 buses to Karimnagar town and 20 buses to Ramagundam.
In the first phase, 17 JNNURM buses were introduced in Karimnagar town. However, the then BRS government could not operate the services due to problems, forcing the stoppage of the local bus services. Following the non-availability of local bus services in Karimnagar, the autorickshaws have mushroomed in the town and are causing serious traffic snarls and encroachments of roads by erecting auto-stand signboards.
