KARIMNAGAR, JULY 09, 2026: Seventy-eight years after its inception, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) marked its Foundation Day on Thursday, with tributes pouring in from political leaders across the country, many of whom trace their own political journeys back to the student organisation.
Founded on July 9, 1949, ABVP has evolved into one of India’s largest student organisations. According to the organisation, it works in the areas of student leadership, educational reforms, social service and nation building, inspired by the ideals of Swami Vivekananda.
Over the decades, it has emerged as a significant platform for student activism and leadership, with many of its former members going on to occupy some of the highest offices in the country.
On its 78th Foundation Day, ABVP Telangana state president Dr Ravula Krishna. On this occasion, the district ABVP unit took out a massive rally in Karimnagar town, which converged into a meeting at Indira Chowk, where the ABVP flag was hoisted. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Krishna said: “The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has, for decades, inspired generations of young Indians with the ideals of Swami Vivekananda, patriotism, and selfless national service. From resisting the Emergency to raising issues of national importance, including infiltration in the Northeast, ABVP has consistently been at the forefront of nation-building. On its Foundation Day, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all its dedicated workers and express confidence that the organisation will continue to inspire youth to place the nation’s interest above all else.”
Stating that the ABVP had emerged as the world’s largest student organisation, he said that the ABVP is guided by the motto of ‘Gyan, Sheel, Ekta’ (Knowledge, Character and Unity) and the primary slogan is ‘student power, Nation’s power’. He said that the ABVP was in the forefront for the student issues such as fee reimbursement, scholarships, quality education and eradication of corruption etc.
He also hailed the ABVP activists for remaining at the forefront in social service activities such as blood donation and participating to help the victims during natural calamities and launching a crusade against drugs. ABVP district convenor Pusaala Vishnu, town secretary Yogesh, state EC member Murali, girls convenor Nitya, zonal in-charge Akash, Prashanth, activists Shiva, Naveen, Yashwant, Kavya and others were also present.
