Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju informs Collectors to encourage farmers to take up alternative crops based on local agro-climatic conditions
HYDERABAD, JULY 04, 2026: Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju held a video conference with District Collectors and reviewed the prevailing situation and preparedness in the Agriculture, Health, Drinking Water and Education sectors on Saturday. Senior officials from the concerned departments participated in the review meeting.
Reviewing the agriculture sector, the Chief Secretary instructed the District Collectors to remain vigilant in view of the possibility of below-normal rainfall in certain districts. He directed the Collectors to prepare district-specific contingency cropping plans to mitigate the impact of any rainfall deficit and ensure that farmers receive timely guidance. He stressed the need for close monitoring of the availability and distribution of quality seeds and fertilisers.
The Chief Secretary also emphasised the importance of creating widespread awareness among farmers on crop diversification. He said that encouraging the cultivation of suitable alternative crops based on local agro-climatic conditions would help improve farm resilience, reduce risks associated with erratic rainfall and enhance farmers’ incomes.
Reviewing public health preparedness, he instructed the District Collectors to ensure effective coordination among all concerned departments to prevent the spread of seasonal diseases during the monsoon.
He directed that Health, Panchayat Raj, Municipal Administration, Rural Water Supply and other departments should work in close coordination to undertake preventive measures, sanitation drives, vector control activities and public awareness campaigns. He stressed that proactive measures at the field level would significantly reduce the incidence of seasonal illnesses.
The Chief Secretary also asked the Collectors to closely monitor the power supply situation, particularly in view of changing weather conditions and rainfall.
Highlighting the importance of safe drinking water, he said that ensuring adequate drinking water supply should remain the highest priority, especially during periods of adverse climatic conditions. He instructed the Collectors to closely monitor drinking water availability in both rural and urban areas and take immediate corrective measures wherever shortages are anticipated.

Reviewing the education sector, the Chief Secretary directed the District Collectors to identify suitable locations for establishing kitchen infrastructure required for midday meal programmes. He asked the Collectors to expedite the identification process in coordination with the concerned departments so that the necessary infrastructure can be developed without delay.
The Chief Secretary directed all District Collectors to maintain close coordination with line departments, regularly monitor field-level implementation and ensure timely action on all priority issues.
