NIRMAL, JULY 02, 2026: In a swift action, the Nirmal district police have cracked the heist at the famous Sri Saraswathi temple in Basara of Nirmal district with the arrest of three persons and recovery of a stolen silver crown weighing 1.22 kilograms, 260 grams of silver anklets and a mobile phone from their possession.
Disclosing this to newsmen in Nirmal town on Thursday, Superintendent of Police Dr G Janaki Sharmila said that the burglary at the Basara temple took place on the night of June 22, wherein the burglars broke open the latches, entered the temple, and decamped with a silver crown, other ornaments, and Rs 16,000 cash from the Hundi. They escaped from the backside of the temple from Vyasa caves and reached the railway station, and boarded a train as ordinary devotees.
The police had formed six special teams to nab the culprits and despatched to Nanded, Dharmabad, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Adilabad and other parts. On credible information, the police nabbed the three accused persons when they were travelling in a train at Basara railway station to sell the silver crown on Tuesday.
The arrested include: Pallapu Edukondalu (Guntur district of AP) and Gaini Kiran alias Ramakrishna (Nizamabad), both are habitual offenders and Kodama Anand (Sholapur, Maharashtra), who purchased the crown and concealed.
The SP congratulated the police team led by Mudhole inspector Ravinder Naik, Basara inspector S Deepak, Nirmal town inspector Sammaiah, head constable Khalid, constables Jagan Singh, Tirupati, home guard Satish and others.
