HYDERABAD, FEBRUARY 04, 2024: Officials of Telangana Drug Control Administration have raided a quack’s clining and seized drugs worth Rs 1.02 lakhs stocked for sale at Garrepalli village in Kataram mandal of Jayashankar-Bhupalapalli district
DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that the officials, on credible information, raided the premises of a quack Kalluri Srinivas Rao, who is running a Aravind First Aid Clinic, in the village, claiming himself as a ‘Private Medical Practitioner’ and detected unauthorized stocking of huge quantity of medicines for sale. DCA officials seized 59 varieties of medicines including higher generation antibiotics, Anti TB drugs, anti ulcer drugs, analgesics, cough syrups etc. of total worth Rs. 1.02 lakhs during the raid.
DCA officials detected several higher generation ‘antibiotic injections’ and anti TB drugs at the clinic during the raid. Indiscriminate sale of antibiotics by an unqualified person may have disastrous consequences on the health of public in rural areas, including emergence of ‘Antimicrobial Resistance’. Dr G Rajyalakshmi, Assistant Director, Warangal, P Pavani, Drugs Inspector, Bhupalpally, M Aravind Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Warangal and A Balakrishna, Drugs Inspector, Jangaon are among the officers who carried out the raid.
The DCA officers lifted the samples for analysis. Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders. Wholesalers/Dealers who supply medicines to such unqualified persons, who are stocking and selling drugs without a drug licence, are also punishable under Drugs and Cosmetics Act and stringent action shall be taken against such Wholesalers/Dealers. Wholesalers/Dealers shall mandatorily ensure that the recipient entities hold a valid drug licence before supplying medicines to them.
Drugs Control Administration, Telangana issues drug licences for stocking and selling of medicines as per the provisions of Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Stocking of drugs for sale without a drug licence is punishable under Drugs and Cosmetics Act with an imprisonment up to five years.
Drugs Control Administration, Telangana has been constantly on the vigil and alert to detect unlicensed stocking and sale of medicines by quacks.
Surprise checks are intensified on such unqualified persons who are carrying out stocking and sale of drugs without any drug licence. Stringent action shall be taken as per the law against violators.
