HYDERABAD, MAY 31, 2026: Officials of the Drug Control Administration, Telangana, busted the illegal sale of habit-forming drugs, including Codeine-containing Tossex Cough Syrups and Tramadol-containing Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus Capsules.
Following the intelligence gathered regarding the illegal sale of habit-forming drugs, the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, conducted a raid at SVR Medicals in Sri Nagar Colony, Ramanthapur, Uppal Mandal, Medchal-Malkajgiri District. During the raid, officers detected that V. Raju and V. Savitha, who run the said medical shop, were selling habit-forming drugs, including Codeine-containing Tossex Cough Syrups and Tramadol-containing Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus Capsules, illegally. They were also found to be not adhering to the Drugs Rules, including selling such drugs without a prescription from a Registered Medical Practitioner; non-maintenance of, and failure to produce, sales bills; failure to maintain the Schedule H1 drug register; and other violations of the Drugs Rules. Records were seized during the raid.
A total of twenty bottles of codeine-containing Tossex cough syrup, each of 120 ml, were seized during the raid. M. Sreebindu, Assistant Director, Shameerpet; G. Indira Priyadarshini, Drugs Inspector, Habsiguda; B. Praveen, Drugs Inspector, Shameerpet; and P. Ambedkar, Drugs Inspector, Medipally, carried out the raid under the supervision of Sri G. Srinivas, Deputy Director-I, DCA.
The abuse of habit-forming drugs such as Codeine and Tramadol can lead to serious physical and psychological consequences. These drugs are often misused for their sedative effects, leading to addiction and dependence. Continued misuse or overdose can result in respiratory depression, seizures, coma, and even death.
