KARIMNAGAR, APRIL 09, 2026: Karimnagar MLA and former Minister Gangula Kamalakar, along with Mayor Kolagani Srinivas and SUDA chairman Komatireddy Narender Reddy, launched the distribution of 5G smartphones to the Anganwadi workers of the Karimnagar urban project on Thursday. The initiative aims to enable faster and more effective service delivery to pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children. The new smartphones replace the earlier 4G devices that had frequent technical issues.
At an event held at the TNGO’s function hall in Karimnagar town, the dignitaries also distributed retrofitted motor vehicles to 17 physically challenged persons. They formally launched the 8th edition of Poshan Pakhwada – 2026, which would be conducted from April 9 to 23. Underscoring the importance of nutrition, Karimnagar MLA has emphasised that a well-nourished child is the foundation of a strong nation.
He said that Poshan Abhiyaan is not just a government programme but a people’s movement to ensure holistic nutrition for every mother and child.

The theme for Poshan Pakhwada is maximising brain development in the first six years of life. This recognises that early childhood, particularly the first one thousand days, is critical for brain development, physical growth, and overall well-being.
Scientific evidence indicates that over 85 per cent of brain development occurs by the age of six, underscoring the importance of optimal nutrition, responsive caregiving, and early learning.
During the Pakhwada, activities will be organised across States and Union Territories through Anganwadi Centres, with participation from mothers, carers, families, community institutions, and local bodies.
These will include Poshan Panchayats, awareness sessions, early stimulation activities, play-based learning initiatives, and campaigns promoting healthy lifestyles and reduced screen time among young children. DWO Saraswati, CDPO K Sabitha Kumari, DMHO Dr Venkata Ramana, supervisors, Poshan abhiyan BC and Anganwadi teachers were also present.
