He also installed a solar panel system at his residence in Karimnagar and reviewed its performance along with officials
KARIMNAGAR, MARCH 28, 2026: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, urged all public representatives—from ward members and sarpanches to councillors and corporators—to lead by example by installing solar systems on their homes. He stated that the Modi government aims to equip one crore households with solar energy systems, and that over ₹75,000 crore has been allocated to achieve this goal. He emphasised that creating widespread awareness about solar energy among the public is a shared responsibility.
Acting on the Prime Minister’s call, the Union Minister installed a solar panel system at his residence. On Saturday morning, he reviewed its performance along with officials from TGREDCO and the distributor. During the visit, officials also released informational pamphlets on the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
On this occasion, the Union Minister said, “It is a matter of great satisfaction to have installed a solar panel system at my residence in response to the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A visionary leader, he continues to work tirelessly for the nation’s security and the welfare of its people. Under his leadership, several welfare initiatives have been launched, guided by the principle of Antyodaya, ensuring that the benefits of development reach every section of society, especially the most disadvantaged”.
In line with this vision, the “PM Surya Ghar – Muft Bijli Yojana”, launched on February 15, 2024, aims to install solar systems in one crore households and provide free electricity. The scheme targets up to 300 units of free power per month per household, backed by a budget allocation of ₹75,000 crore.

The Prime Minister has urged all public representatives to lead by example by adopting solar energy at their homes. I appeal to everyone—from ward members and sarpanches to councillors and corporators—to take this initiative forward and promote solar adoption. However, there is a clear need to strengthen awareness efforts, as the expected progress has not yet been achieved despite the scheme being in place since 2024. The Centre has already allocated sufficient funds to support 5,000 to 7,000 households per Assembly constituency in installing solar systems.
I appeal to every household to consider installing solar systems. The government is providing subsidies ranging from ₹30,000 to ₹78,000, making it more affordable for families. In my own experience, my monthly electricity bill used to be around ₹25,000–₹30,000, but after installing solar panels, it is expected to drop to below ₹5,000. This clearly shows the long-term savings and benefits of adopting solar energy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a vision to transform citizens from power consumers into power producers. I encourage farmers and the general public to adopt solar energy and move towards generating and even selling electricity.
Solar adoption has been made accessible even for economically weaker sections. With up to 80% loan support available on easy instalment terms, it can be installed without a financial burden.
To further promote solar energy in agriculture and enhance farmers’ incomes, the government has introduced the PM-KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) scheme.
Under this initiative, TG-REDCO aims to set up 1,800 MW of solar power capacity in Telangana. Applications are being invited from farmers, farmer groups, cooperative societies, and village-level organisations.
So far, participation has been limited, with 46 applications from Karimnagar and 17 from Sircilla, and 63 approvals granted. Farmers can generate surplus power beyond their needs and sell it to DISCOMs, creating an additional source of income.
I urge farmers to come forward in large numbers and make full use of this opportunity, he informed.
