HYDERABAD, FEBRUARY 23, 2026: With antimicrobial resistance (AMR) posing a threat to public health, the Drugs Control Administration (DCA) authorities have launched an awareness campaign by releasing pamphlets to combat AMR on Monday.
The pamphlets, released in both Telugu and English, recommended the use of antibiotics with extreme care to ensure they remain effective against the infection for which they are being used.

The DCA also appealed to the public to avoid taking antibiotics when not required, as it speeds up antibiotic resistance. The DCA stated the antibiotic resistant infections are more complex and harder to treat, and as such, antibiotics must be taken only on a doctor’s advice.
“The issue of growing resistance towards antimicrobials needs urgent attention. The focus should be on raising awareness regarding the threat of antimicrobial resistance and what measures can be taken to prevent this resistance,” the DCA stated in the pamphlet.
Further, the Drugs Control Administration is also ensuring, through periodical inspections and surprise raids of retail medical shops, the prevention of indiscriminate sale of antibiotics, and stringent action is being taken against violators in accordance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules.
