KARIMNAGAR, FEBRUARY 21, 2026: The International Mother Language Day was celebrated under the auspices of the Telugu Department at Telangana Social Welfare Residential Women’s Degree College, Nagunoor, Karimnagar. The programme was presided over by the College Principal, T. Malathi.
On this occasion, the speakers emphasised that no matter how many other languages one learns, one should never forget one’s mother tongue, even in dreams. They highlighted the greatness of the Telugu language by recalling the famous statement of Sri Krishnadevaraya, who declared, “Among all the languages of the nation, Telugu is the best.” It was also mentioned that poets like Daasarathi Krishnamacharyulu and Kaloji Narayana Rao worked tirelessly for the development and promotion of the Telugu language.
It was explained that Telugu is one of the Dravidian languages. To prevent mother tongues from becoming extinct, UNESCO declared February 21, 1999, as International Mother Language Day. It was also noted that the people of Bangladesh fought bravely and even sacrificed their lives to protect their mother language.
The uniqueness and significance of Telugu were elaborated by the Head of the Telugu Department, Erroju Venkateshwarlu.
The Vice Principal S. Padmaja, ACO G. Vasumathi, Superintendent T. Suresh Kumar, Telugu faculty members C.H. Kavitha, A. Renuka, M. Kalyani, and other staff and students participated in the program and made it a grand success.
