HYDERABAD, MARCH 28, 2024: Former Vemulawada BRS legislator Chennamaneni Ramesh Babu has urged Minister for Agriculture and Cooperation Tummala Nageshwara Rao to take measures for strengthen and revitalize the 52-year-old Cooperative Electric Supply Society (CESS) of Rajanna-Sircilla district.
In a memorandum submitted to the minister and a copy of which was released to the media here on Thursday, Mr Ramesh Babu find fault with the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) to windup CESS or merge it with NPDCL. Stating that the decision to windup CESS was biased and inappropriate step which is against the spirit of cooperative movement, he reminded that the CESS was having 2,97, 708 members and 2,55,83 connections and members share capital of Rs 6,14,81,587 in the society.
“One of the most important issues of financial viability can be solved, according to experts, in adjusting the dues of the cooperative and the dues of the Government to the cooperative very amicably. CESS could indeed overcome many crisis situations in the past with its strong cooperative commitment and the active participation of its members”, he stated.
In fact CESS is a living example that peoples oriented enterprises can indeed be economically successful in the globalization era, if social commitment and strong political will exists. It was with this commitmentleaders like Chennamaneni Rajeswara Rao, Juvvadi Narsinga Rao, Gotte Bhupathi and others were successful in bringing this cooperative venture to Sircilla to achieve 100% electrification right in the beginning of 1970’s and also its unique successful functioning thereafter, he said.
“In view of the high political, economic and social importance of CESS to small and marginal farmers and other consumers as well as to the people and civil society of the district, I earnestly request you to take all necessary administrative and financial steps in strengthening and revitalizing this people’s enterprise. I am absolutely convinced that given the Governments positive and proactive role, CESS on its part would fulfill its responsibilities in the interest of their service to the consumers”, he maintained. CESS chairman Chikkala Rama Rao, vice chairman Devarakonda Tirupati were also present.
