Entry into the Critical Minerals Sector; Formation of “Global Singareni Limited” for International Expansion
HYDERABAD, DECEMBER 05, 2025: In line with the Telangana State Government’s Vision 2047, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has released its Vision 2030–2047 document.
At a meeting held on Friday evening at Singareni Bhavan in Hyderabad, the Company’s Chairman & Managing Director, N Balram, officially unveiled the Vision Document and elaborated on its objectives in an inspiring manner. Directors of the company and General Managers from various areas and departments participated in the event.
He stated that, comprehensive plans have been formulated to expand Singareni not only in the coal sector but also into multiple other sectors, keeping in view the company’s future along with the energy needs of the state and the nation. In particular, he highlighted extensive plans for the generation of various forms of renewable energy, and announced that a subsidiary named Global Singareni Limited (GSL) will be established to enable Singareni’s entry into critical mineral sectors across India and abroad.
Key Targets for 2030 (Short and Medium-Term Goals):
- Singareni aims to achieve 100 million tonnes of coal production by 2030.
- To meet this target, SCCL will take up new coal blocks not only within its existing lease areas but also outside its lease boundaries and in other states.
- The current 1,200 MW thermal power generation capacity will be expanded to 4,400 MW by setting up new plants.
- SCCL, which is currently producing 245.5 MW of solar power, has set a target of producing 2,000 MW of solar energy by 2030. As part of this, a 1,500 MW solar plant will soon be established in Rajasthan.
- 800 MW of floating solar power plants will be set up on major water reservoirs in Telangana.
- 100 MW wind power plants will be established on high overburden dumps of opencast mines.
- The company aims to set up 500 MW of pumped-storage power plants. In the first phase, a 250 MW plant will be set up at the closed Medipalli Opencast Mine.
- At the site of the pilot project that proved successful at Pagideru near Manuguru, SCCL plans to set up a 200 MW geothermal plant.
- Additionally, another 1,500 MW of power will be generated under FDRE, Hybrid, RTC categories, and 700 MW battery energy storage systems will be installed at various solar plants.
With these developments, Singareni aims to produce a total of 5.85 GW (5,850 MW) of renewable energy by 2029–30, as mentioned in the Vision Document.
Singareni is not limiting itself to coal, thermal, wind, and solar power sectors alone but is committed to entering the critical minerals sector. Agreements have already been signed with reputed research institutions to explore opportunities in this field in India and abroad. The company has secured licences for copper and gold exploration and plans to move aggressively in this domain. To undertake such international operations, the Vision Document proposes the formation of a dedicated subsidiary, Global Singareni Limited (GSL).
Long-Term Goals – Vision 2047:
Under its long-term plan for the year 2047, Singareni aims to establish:
- 15,000 MW of thermal power
- 3,000 MW of solar power
- 2,815 MW of floating solar power
- 1,500 MW of pumped-storage power
- 500 MW of geothermal power
In total, SCCL plans to generate 25 GW of renewable and clean energy through various sources.
