HYDERABAD, NOVEMBER 17, 2025: At least 42 people were feared charred to death after a bus carrying Umrah pilgrims collided with a diesel tanker near Madinah on Monday. The victims are believed to be Indian nationals, with several reportedly from Hyderabad city.
Reports reaching here stated that at least 16 of those killed in the Saudi bus mishap were Hyderabad residents, from the Bazarghat area of Mallepalli.
According to initial reports received by the state government, the accident took place around 1.30 am IST in Mufrihat, roughly 160 km from Madinah. The bus was carrying 43 passengers, and only one person is believed to have survived.
The group had left Hyderabad on November 9 and was returning to Madinah after offering Umrah prayers in Mecca when the tragedy struck, a relative of the victims said. They had travelled through Al Meena and Al Mecca Travels, Nampally.

PM expresses condolences
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives due to an accident in Medinah, Saudi Arabia, involving Indian nationals. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones and prayed for the swift recovery of those injured.
The Prime Minister stated that India’s Embassy in Riyadh and Consulate in Jeddah are providing all possible assistance to the affected individuals. He also informed that Indian officials are in close contact with the Saudi Arabian authorities to ensure necessary support and coordination.
The Prime Minister wrote on X;
“Deeply saddened by the accident in Medinah involving Indian nationals. My thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the swift recovery of all those injured. Our Embassy in Riyadh and Consulate in Jeddah are providing all possible assistance. Our officials are also in close contact with Saudi Arabian authorities.”
