Singareni Signs MoU with Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research, Development, and Design Centre
Milestone for Rare Earth Elements Research in the Singareni Areas
Partnership to Enhance Research and Innovation in Key Minerals Across India and Worldwide
HYDERABAD, NOVEMBER 04, 2025: As part of its business expansion initiatives, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has been entering into Memorandum of Understanding with various national research institutions. On Monday, Singareni signed an MoU with the Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC)-an autonomous research organization under the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, headquartered in Nagpur.
The agreement aims to facilitate scientific analysis and research on the existence and expansion of critical minerals and rare earth elements in the Singareni region and to promote joint cooperation at national and international levels.
The MoU signing ceremony was held at Singareni Bhavan, Hyderabad, in the presence of SCCL Chairman & Managing Director N Balram. The documents were signed by SCCL Director (P&P) K. Venkateswarlu and JNARDDC Director Dr. Anupam Agnihotri.
On this occasion, CMD N Balram explained the objectives of the agreement, stating that Singareni has embarked on large-scale business expansion plans across India and abroad, with a special focus on critical minerals and rare earth elements. He mentioned that, Singareni is partnering with national-level government research organizations that possess decades of expertise in these fields, to advance through technical collaboration and mutual cooperation.
He further said that JNARDDC, which has extensive experience in aluminium, rare earth elements and critical mineral research, provides technical support to several national institutions and conducts workshops and awareness programs in these domains. Hence, Singareni has entered into a long-term collaboration with JNARDDC.
Highlighting the company’s entry into rare earth elements exploration, Sri Balram stated that Singareni is exploring opportunities both in India and abroad and that the support of JNARDDC would help scientifically confirm the presence and potential of such minerals. Preliminary studies have already indicated the presence of rare earth elements in the overburden of open cast mines, in fly ash from the STPP and in nearby hill areas of the Singareni region. This collaboration will enable more in-depth scientific studies on these findings.
He also mentioned that, the partnership would extend to capacity building and training programs in geosciences and mineral sectors and that Singareni would have access to JNARDDC’s advanced research laboratories for further studies. On this occasion, Research Centre Director Dr. Anupam Agnihotri expressed his pleasure at signing the agreement with Singareni. He noted that Singareni has vast experience in mining and with this expertise, they are well-positioned to excel in the field of critical minerals as well. He said the MoU would be mutually beneficial to both organizations. The event was attended by SCCL Directors L.V. Suryanarayana, K. Venkateswarlu, Thirumalar Rao, GM (Coordination) T. Srinivas and GM’s Ramdas and Srinivasa Rao.
