Fuel Supply Agreement to be Finalised within 10 Days
Tamil Nadu Becomes the First Consumer of Coal from Naini Block
HYDERABAD, OCTOBER 03, 2025: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is set to commence coal supply from its prestigious Naini coal block in Odisha to Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation. An annual supply of 2.88 million tonnes of G-11 grade coal has been agreed upon, and a Fuel Supply Agreement (FSA) between the two organisations is expected to be finalised within the next 10 days.
A meeting was held on Friday at Singareni Bhavan, Hyderabad, between SCCL Chairman and Managing Director N. Balram and Tamil Nadu Power Genco Managing Director M. Govind Rao, to discuss the modalities of the coal supply arrangement.
Mr M. Govind Rao stated that their 1,200 MW thermal power plant at Udangudi in Thoothukudi district requires 2.88 million tonnes of G-11 grade coal annually and requested Singareni to supply the required quantity. Responding positively, SCCL CMD Sri N. Balram confirmed that production at the Naini coal block has commenced and that Singareni is fully prepared to supply coal via both rail and waterways.
He directed Naini project officials to make necessary arrangements for coal dispatch and instructed the coal transportation and marketing departments to ensure the FSA with Tamilnadu Genco is completed within 10 days.
This agreement marks a significant step in strengthening the long-standing relationship between SCCL and Tamil Nadu Genco. Both CMD Balram and MD Govind Rao expressed confidence that this partnership will further deepen in the coming years.
Singareni is already supplying 1.75 million tonnes of coal annually to the North Chennai thermal power plant in Tamil Nadu. Now, as an agreement has been reached for the supply of 2.88 million tonnes of coal per year from the Naini project in Odisha. In this context, it is noteworthy that Tamil Nadu will become the first consumer of coal from the Naini block. Executive Director (Coal Movement) B. Venkanna and General Manager (Coordination & Marketing) T. Srinivas also participated in the meeting.
