
KARIMNAGAR, OCTOBER 02, 2025: Hummara Unnati Marg (HUM), a voluntary organisation in Karimnagar town, has released a poster appealing to the people of the town to discourage the use of plastic bags and carry only cloth bags to protect the environment from pollution.
The programme was taken up as part of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary celebrations on Thursday at Munnuru Kapu Bhavan at Kapu Wada in Karimnagar.
HUM founder president Dhanapuri Sagar said that the use of plastic bags was posing a serious threat to the environment and as human beings and birds, and cattle. Stating that all the plastic reaches the ocean, he said that the marine mammals and fish and sea birds, which ate plastic because of its similarity to their own food, were being killed.
In the cities, the stray cattle and birds were also being found eating plastic in search of food and suffering from digestive tract problems, he said and added that the several lakhs of tonnes of plastic pollution might be floating in the world’s oceans if the menace is not checked well in advance. Former Deputy Mayor G Ramesh, Bommarathi Ramachandram, Kalyadapu Agaiah, Adi Mallesham Patel, Daggu Mahender and others were also present.
