HANAMKONDA, MARCH 14, 2024: Hema YallaPragada, Warwick District Councillor, was on Tuesday honoured with the prestigious IIW (Inspiring Indian Women) ‘SHE INSPIRES’ award in the category of ‘Champion of Earth – Environmentalist’ for her outstanding contribution to environmental conservation and sustainable development initiatives, according to Hema’s father, former Chairman of Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) Prof Y Sudershan Rao.
In a glittering ceremony held at the historic British Parliament, IIW Inspiring Indian Women, UK celebrated the IIW She Inspires Awards 2024 at the Houses of Parliament in UK. IIW team has been working hard supporting women from all fields to grow professionally as well as personally. Following the same footsteps, SHE INSPIRES award was celebrated to the Strength exhibited by women in different roles.
Among the winners, Hema YallaPragada, is from Telangana state, has been advocating for increased green canopy and addressing environmental challenges in her district in UK. She has been successful in collaborating with various organisations such as Clean Air Warwickshire, Climate Alliance, and Bee-friendly to promote green initiatives and combat issues like air and water pollution. As District Councillor since May 2023, YallaPragada has been committed to enhancing the quality of life for residents besides campaigning for the introduction of a bus service connecting over a hundred households to the town, reducing pollution and providing better transportation options for residents.
In addition, her partnership with Heart of England Forest facilitated an increase in tree planting and hedgerows in her ward and better cycle routes and walking paths to promote sustainable transportation and encourage children to safely commute to school without relying on cars.
Responding to the honour, Hema said, “I am deeply honoured to receive the ‘She Inspires’ award and grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact on our environment. This recognition inspires me to continue working towards a greener and more sustainable future for our community.”
