
RAJANNA-SIRCILLA, FEBRUARY 03, 2025: To instil reading habits among the students, the management of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree College for Women, Shatrajpalli, Vemulawada, in Rajanna-Sircilla district, inaugurated the Reading Club on the auspicious occasion of Vasanth Panchami on Monday.
Recipient of Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award 2022 for translating Gulzar’s ‘Green Poems’ from Hindi to Telugu as ‘Akupacha Kavithalu’ Varala Anand along with college principal K Lavanya and others formally inaugurated the Reading Club. The club will conduct sessions three days in a week where in various books will be read and reviewed by the students.
The Reading club will also conduct engaging activities such as reading competitions, writing book reports and reviews, ‘Know your author’ sessions, book donation drives and storytelling activities. The initiative aims to foster the habit of reading among students and encourage literary pursuits.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Varala Anand expressed his delight saying that reading is the foundation of knowledge and wisdom and should be accessible to all. The Principal shared her views on the importance of reading books as it not only boosts memory and intelligence but also improves reading and writing skills. Vice-Principal B Sumalatha, Superintendent N Srinivas, Librarian G Srilatha, the teaching staff, and students were also present.
