HYDERABAD, NOVEMBER 01, 2024: In the wake of the state government announcing to conduct a caste census tentatively from November 6 onwards, the government announced half-day timing for the primary schools, which will function from 9 am to 1 pm.
This is applicable to the government, local bodies and aided primary schools as teachers from these schools are set to hold caste census for a period of three weeks. These schools have been asked to let off students after serving mid-day meals as per the schedule.
However, the Telangana State Teachers Union (TSTU) state unit has strongly condemned the decision to deploy only the primary school teachers for the Caste Census neglecting the upper primary and high school teachers.
In a statement here on Friday evening, TSTU state President Mohammed Abdullah and general secretary Chanduri Raji Reddy demanded the government deploy all the teachers for the Caste Census instead of deploying only primary school teachers. The decision is nothing but distancing the students from education in the primary sections, they stated and found fault with the state Education Department for the deployment of only primary school teachers for the conduct of caste census.
Stating that the Telangana state had ranked low in the National Achievement Survey (NAS) about learning achievements of students, they stated that the deployment of primary school teachers for the Caste census would further decline the status of Telangana in educational standards. Hence, they urged the government to deploy all the teachers for the Caste Census and exempt the primary teachers from this job.
