HYDERABAD, OCTOBER 28, 2024: Students of Sister Nivedita School, Ameerpet, Hyderabad, celebrated the 157th birth anniversary of Sister Nivedita on Monday with much pomp and grandeur by organising a literary festival.
Born as Margaret Noble, the Iris author and teacher was Swami Vivekananda’s disciple and made India her home. Sister Nivedita was born on October 28, 1867. She came across Swami Vivekananda in the year 1895 in London. It was Swami, who gave her the name Nivedita (meaning dedicated to God). She was a champion of women’s education in India and played crucial role in India’s freedom struggle.
As part of the celebrations, the students of classes 1 and 2 celebrated the birth anniversary of Sister Nivedita by enacting several plays and skits on Swami Vivekananda and Sister Nivedita and their contributions to society.
The young learners hosted the program by introducing their school name where a boy tells his school name as Sister Nivedita and invites the other one to watch the programme and it continues by simplifying who Sister Nivedita was.
The celebrations began with a melodious song and it continued with a skit. In the skit, children showcased inspiring performances portraying the life story of Sister Nivedita, who came to India how and where she met Swami Vivekananda and how she became the discipline of Swamiji. The skit also highlighted how she took care of the poor and needy people during the plague epidemic in Calcutta (present-day – Kolkata). The winners of Literary Fest were given certificates and trophies by Principal Dr T Lalitha Kumari. Furthermore, the programme concluded with children’s all-time favourite part with a dance performance.
Addressing the gathering the Principal and Correspondent Rtn of the school Hari Hara Prasad praised all the participants. School Chairman Dr Sudhakar Rao Polsani congratulated the students for their outstanding performances.
