Continue their drive against quacks in various parts of Telangana
HYDERABAD, FEBRUARY 21, 2024: Officials of Telangana Drugs Control Administration on Tuesday seized two overpriced medicines – MRP indicated is very high compared to the Ceiling Price fixed for the product by the Central Government.
The overpriced drugs are Meroamp 1000 Injection (Meropenem Injection IP 1gm Vial) at Yousufguda, Hyderabad. Itradol-200 Capsules (Itraconazole Capsules 200 mg) at Hayathnagar, Rangareddy District.
DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that the product Meropenem Injection IP 1gm sold under brand name ‘Meroamp 1000 Injection’ and the product Itraconazole Capsules 200 mg sold under the brand name ‘Itradol-200 Capsules’ are under price control as per Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 and the price of the products shall be in accordance with the ‘Ceiling Price’ fixed by National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), Government of India.
The medical shops were selling Meroamp injection at Rs 3,500 for 1 gram vial against Central price fixed at Rs 952.68 and MRP at Rs 1,067 per 1 gram vial. There was difference of Rs 2433 excess collection. The officials seized stocks worth Rs 28,000. Similarly, the traders were selling Itraconazole capsules at Rs 375 per 10 capsules against central price of Rs 22.12 per capsule and MRP of Rs 24.77 per capsule. T Rajamouli, Assistant Director, Hyderabad, C. Vivekananda Reddy, Drugs Inspector, Yousufguda, P. Santosh, Drugs Inspector, Mehdipatnam, V. Ajay, Drugs Inspector, Goshamahal are among the officers who carried out the raid at Yousufguda. Anjum Abida, Assistant Director, Rangareddy, Sri. L. Raju, Drugs Inspector, Hayathnagar are among the officers who carried out the raid at Hayathnagar. Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders.
The prices of Essential Medicines shall be in accordance with the Ceiling Prices fixed by the Central Government. Overpricing of essential medicines is a violation under Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 and stringent action shall be taken as per the law against violators.
Raids clinics of quacks
In the meantime, the DCA officials raided premises of quacks MD. Ismail who is running a clinic at Gadepadu Village, Singareni Mandal, Khammam District and another quack G. Nageshwar Rao who is running a clinic at Pashamylaram Village, Patancheru Mandal, Sangareddy District. MD. Ismail and G. Nageshwar Rao are claiming themselves as ‘Rural Medical Practitioners’ and practising medicine without qualification at their clinics.
During the raids carried out at the said two premises, DCA officials detected huge stocks of medicines found stocked without any drug licence. 150 varieties of medicines including antibiotics, analgesics, anti ulcer drugs, antihypertensives etc. are found stocked at the two premises. DCA officials seized the stocks of total worth Rs. 2.30 lakhs during the raids.
Devender Reddy, Drugs Inspector, Khammam Rural, Ch. Anil Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Khammam Urban and Sampath Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Bhadradri-Kothagudem are among the officers who carried out the raid at Khammam District. M. Varaprasad, Drugs Inspector, Pashamylaram and M. Chandrasekhar, Drugs Inspector, Patancheru are among the officers who carried out the raid at Sangareddy District.
Surprise checks are intensified on such unqualified persons who are engaged in stocking and selling drugs without any drug license. Stringent action will be taken as per the law against violators.
