
RAJANNA-SIRCILLA, OCTOBER 16, 2024: Students of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree College for Women, Sircilla, located at Shatrajpalli village of Vemulawada mandal, undertook an initiative to raise awareness on food security to support the poor farmers on World Food Day on Wednesday.
As part of the programme, the students were enlightened on the importance of food and its nutritional values, the disadvantages of junk food, food components, how to prevent food wastage and the importance of food safety through posters and model presentations.
Principal P Srinivasa Ramalingeshwara Sharma appreciated the students for their creativity. He explained that it is the prime responsibility of every individual to join hands in the fight against hunger, malnutrition and poverty. Vice Principal K. Lavanya, Head, of the Department of Microbiology G Swapna, Head the Department of Botany R Deepthi, faculty Ayesha Fathima and others were also present.
World Food Day celebrated every year worldwide on October 16 to commemorate the date of the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (UNFAO) in 1945. The theme of this year’s World Food Day is “Right to food for a Better Life and a Better Future”, which serves as a reminder of the crucial need for food security and nutrition for all.
