‘4km Walkathon’ Organised by ‘Sevaarth’ to Raise Awareness on Breastfeeding
Medical students participated enthusiastically.
WARANGAL, AUGUST 05. 2025: “Mother’s milk is life-saving for every newborn,” said Dr. S. Sandhya, Principal of Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal. On Tuesday morning, as part of World Breastfeeding Week celebrations, a ‘Walkathon’ was organised by the ‘Sevaarth Club’ of Kakatiya Medical College in association with Warangal Academy of Paediatrics and Koorapati Hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sandhya highlighted that despite tremendous advancements in science and technology, there is still no better nutritional substitute for infants than this “liquid gold.” She emphasised that breastmilk remains the most precious nourishment to ensure healthy growth in children.
However, she expressed concern that due to various reasons, some infants are deprived of breastmilk. To support such babies, milk banks have been established at government maternity hospitals in the city. She urged kind-hearted mothers to donate their milk to these banks, emphasising how donated breastmilk can be a lifesaver, especially for newborns in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU), who often fight for survival.
Dr. Sandhya appreciated the efforts of the Sevaarth Club in organising such a meaningful event and encouraged them to continue spreading awareness.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Koorapati Radhika stressed the extensive benefits of breastfeeding and the need for complete awareness about it. She described breastmilk as nature’s finest gift for infants.
Doctors from the Warangal Academy of Paediatrics emphasised the importance of initiating breastfeeding within 30 minutes of birth and continuing it exclusively for the first six months. They described breastfeeding as the first step toward a healthy life for every child.
The walkathon, which began at Kakatiya Medical College and concluded at Public Garden, saw active participation from: Dr. Sriram Reddy, Dr. Ashok Reddy, Dr. Anil, Dr. Karunakar, Dr. Balaram Naik, Dr.Koorapati Ramesh, Physical Director Prabhakar Reddy, Sevaarth Club president Abdul Raoof, Vice president G.Ananya, General Secretary Nagireddy Sai Sudhamsh Reddy members of the club.
