KARIMNAGAR, JUNE 19, 2024: Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao has strongly condemned the adamant and undemocratic attitude of Minister for Transport and BC Ponnam Prabhakar for conducting the review meeting on Karimnagar Municipality and Smart City Project violating the protocol by not inviting the local legislator, MP, Mayor and municipal corporators.
It is not a political party meeting and it was conducted in the Collectorate. At least, the district officials should have followed the protocol by inviting the local elected representatives for the meeting, he reminded. The Minister had insulted the people of Karimnagar town by not inviting the local leaders for the meeting.
Talking to newsmen along with BRS corporators and party leaders here on Wednesday, the Mayor said “Mr Ponnam Prabhakar is now a non-local candidate in Karimnagar district and he had exercised his franchise from the Husnabad assembly segment in the last elections and belongs to the Siddipet district. The state government had appointed N Uttam Kumar Reddy as the incharge Minister of old Karimnagar district. How can Ponnam Prabhakar conduct review meeting on Karimnagar municipality. Whether Uttam Kumar had been replaced as incharge Minister with Ponnam”.
Flaying the Minister’s remarks on the development of Karimnagar Municipality, he asked whether he had bought any funds from the development of Karimnagar town when he was Karimnagar MP from 2009 to 2014. He said that the BRS government had secured Smart City project to Karimnagar and taken up several works and thanked Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar for extending all support for the development of Karimnagar municipality. He suggested Mr Ponnam Prabhakar to focus on his Husnabad assembly segment instead of interfering in the affairs of Karimnagar Municipality.
As a Minister, Mr Prabhakar can visit Karimnagar district and conduct review meetings on his portfolios of Transport and BC welfare and not to obstruct the development of Karimnagar town by making false allegations, he informed. Accepting the challenge for any kind of inquiry including Vigilance and CBI into the developmental works taken up in Karimnagar, the Mayor dared the Minister whether would be ready for any into allegations on the transportation of flyash from NTPC Ramagundam and other allegations in Transport department.
Stating that the Karimnagar municipality was first in the state to launch daily water supply scheme, he said that due to negligent attitude of Ponnam Prabhakar the waters from the LMD reservoir were released downstream and forced the MCK to bring back alternate water supply. He said that they were taking measures to provide 24×7 water supply in Karimnagar town.
