KARIMNAGAR, JANUARY 11, 2026: Doctors associated with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Karimnagar chapter celebrated Sankranthi, the harvest festival of the state, with festive fervour at the IMA hall in Karimnagar town on Sunday.
The celebrations began with the lighting of a traditional lamp by IMA district president Dr Akula Shailaja, Secretary Dr Mahesh, Treasurer Dr Neelima and others. The IMA hall was colourfully decorated with banana and mango leaves, colourful rangolis in different patterns. They also prepared ‘pongal’. Traditional elements such as Gangireddu, Bommala Koluvu and Bhogi Mantalu were displayed on the campus, along with a variety of traditional sweets associated with the festival.

The programme began with a Burrakatha performance explaining the significance of Sankranti. A dance drama on Godadevi Kalyanam highlighted the cultural and spiritual importance of the festival. The day-long event was also marked by kite flying competitions, slow-bike competition and served sumptuous Telangana food and savouries, including Sakinala, Areselu to the participants.
