Alleges large-scale irregularities in the execution of the Cable-stayed bridge
KARIMNAGAR, JUNE 14, 2025: The Communist Party of India, Karimnagar district unit, has demanded that the Congress government should order a Vigilance inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the execution of the Manair River Front in Karimnagar town.
CPI National EC member and former legislator Chada Venkat Reddy, along with party state EC member Marri Venkat Swamy, district party secretary Panjala Srinivas, town secretary Kasireddy Surender Reddy and others visited the Manair River Front (MRF) in Karimnagar town on Saturday. On this occasion, they had shown the poor quality of work wherein check-dams constructed across the river were being washed away and other irregularities in the construction of the project.
Talking to newsmen, Mr Chanda Venkat Reddy demanded that the district incharge Minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao conduct a review meeting on the execution of Manair River Front and cable-stayed bridge taken up by the former BRS government, as there were lots of irregularities in the execution of works. The cable-stayed bridge was completed and inaugurated, but it sinks during the rainy season and the roads on the bridge are badly regularly, he said and added that the MRF was taken up with much hype, but it is yet to be completed.
Stating that the MRF was taken up at a cost of over Rs 500 crore, he reminded that the Tourism department had allocated Rs 100 crore and another Rs 100 crore by the Irrigation department. He stated that the MRF had now remained standstill without any progress despite spending a huge amount, and added that the Check-dams constructed for the MRF were washed away in the floods three years ago.
He alleged that several irregularities and corruption in the MRF and cable-stayed bridge works were taken up during the Karimnagar MLA and former Minister Gangula Kamalakar. He charged that the former Minister had allocated the works to his ‘benamis’ and close relatives and friends.
He reminded that then Minister for R&B Tummala Nageshwara Rao had inaugurated the cable-stayed bridge in Karimnagar town, which was constructed for Rs 208 and plagued with poor quality works with the sinking of the bridge, no proper roads and illuminations.
CPI state leader Marri Venkat Swamy has demanded an inquiry and to punish the culprits for swindling the public exchequer and register criminal cases. He threatened to launch agitations demanding action against the persons involved in the irregularities in the execution of the MRF and cable-stayed bridge. CPI leaders Kinnera Mallavva, Paidipalli Raj, Nyalapatla Raju, Katikareddy Butchanna Yadav, Kasireddy Manikanta Reddy, Banda Raji Reddy, Kandi Ravinder Reddy, Macha Ramesh and others were also present.
