RAJANNA-SIRCILLA, MARCH 14, 2026: To combat dehydration and heat-related illnesses among students, the Zilla Parishad High School in Jillela of Rajanna Sircilla district has launched the Water Bell initiative operating on half-day schedules during summer.
The ZPHS Jillela, under the guidance of Headmaster Anuradha, launched the ‘water bell initiative’ last year and successfully implemented it for the second consecutive year.
To ensure safe and clean drinking water, the school has installed an RO Water Purification System, which is maintained regularly using the School Maintenance Grant. The purified water is stored in steel vessels with taps, generously donated by Erra Vinay, a well-wisher of the school.
To encourage healthy drinking habits, steel water bottles were provided to students by the school alumni Rachakonda Satish and Rachakonda Santhosh. For keeping the drinking water naturally cool, traditional mud vessels (రంజన్లు) were donated by Mahammad Khaleel, the parent of two students of the school.

As part of this initiative, the regular interval has been renamed as “Water Bell.” During the water bell, all students and staff gather on the school ground with their steel water bottles and drink water together twice a day. This collective practice helps in building awareness about the importance of hydration and encourages students to develop healthy habits.
The initiative has shown positive results in improving students’ health, alertness, and mental well-being. Teachers have observed that students remain more active, focused, and energetic during classroom activities.
The Water Bell Initiative reflects the school’s commitment to student health, community participation, and sustainable practices through the use of steel containers and traditional mud vessels for water cooling.
This simple yet effective practice demonstrates how community support and thoughtful planning can create a healthier learning environment for students.
