
RAJANNA-SIRCILLA, JULY 11, 2025: The Government Degree College, Sircilla textile town, Rajanna-Sircilla district, observed the World Population Day, an event aimed at raising awareness about global population issues, including the challenges of overpopulation, healthcare, family planning, and gender equality, on Friday. This day serves as a reminder to consider solutions for sustainable development and improved living standards.
Under the aegis of the NSS and Economics department, College Principal T Shankar formally launched the celebrations. The main objective of these programmes was to raise awareness among the public, especially the youth, about the rising population and its social, economic, and environmental impacts.
This year’s World Population Day was observed with special focus on the theme “Empowering Youth: Enabling the Future They Want in an Equal and Hopeful World.” In line with this theme, the event emphasised the need to empower youth by providing them with accurate information, education, and services related to reproductive health.
As part of the awareness programme, an elocution competition was conducted. Students participated enthusiastically in this contest. They clearly expressed their thoughts and opinions on topics like population control, family planning methods, sustainable development goals, and youth empowerment. The organisers noted that the competition helped enhance deep awareness and analytical skills among the youth.
NSS Programme officers Markonda Shakuntala and K Sharada, IQAC coordinator M Shobha Rani, staff secretary G Sridhar Rao, faculty members S Krishna Prasad, Narsaiah, KY Karuna, NSS volunteers and other students were also present.
