
KARIMNAGAR, OCTOBER 05, 2024: There is no safety for women and she is unable to lead a decent life along with the menfolk in the country, said V Mythili, LIC Women Coordination Committee Telangana state Convenor.
Participating in the 12th Working Women Convention of Insurance Corporation Employees Union of LIC in Karimnagar town on Saturday, she said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi asks citizens to respect women during his Independence Day and the same day 11 accused persons convicted in a gang-rape of a pregnant women and murder of 14 members of her family were released from the jail in Gujarat state.
Similarly, in Manipur state the women were raped and paraded naked, but the government had not taken any action against the culprits. She said that a medico was brutally raped and murdered in Kolkatta of West Bengal state, but the Prime Minister remains silent over the issue, she charged.
Quoting statistics from 2021, she said that there were attacks on 49 women in an hour and daily 86 atrocities against women in the country. The women employees feel unsafe elsewhere, she said and added that luckily in the LIC because of Insurance Corporation employees union the women employees are safe and discharging their duties comfortably.
ICEU Karimnagar women sub-committee member R Srilatha presided over the meeting and zonal federation vice president P Sujana, Secunderabad division treasurer Ushasri, Karimnagar AIDWA leader Nagarani, Karimnagar division president A Rammohan Rao, Karimnagar LIC senior divisional manager SV Prasad Rao also attended the meeting and spoke. Convenor G Vani presented the annual report for the year 2023-24 and the new body was elected in the elections.
The new office-bearers include; Convenor G Vani, co-convenor V Bala Sudharani, members R Srilatha, SS Sridevi, and media committee members K Sridevi and Srilatha.
The resolutions passed at the meeting are; 33 per cent reservations to the women in the Assembly and Parliament, take measures to prevent atrocities against women, and there should not be any disparities in the wages of women and men in the unorganized sector.
Division leaders D Surya Kala, P Basaveshwar, C Anupama, M Srilatha, R Venkataramana, DO unit leaders Prabhakara Chary, Mallesham, Branch one leaders D Srinivas and B Srinivas, Pensioners association leaders Laxmikantham, Rajender and others were also present.
