HYDERABAD, JANUARY 15, 2026: The smokers of tobacco products have protested against the increase in cigarette prices by 10 to 20 per cent in the twin cities of Hyderabad.
In a statement here on Thursday, Devendra Singh, P Narsing Rao, Shiva Narayana, Srinivas Reddy, Sai Kumar Yadav, Sivaramulu, Sanjay Krishna Yadav, Shaikh Subhani, Sannasi Rao, and others said that due to limited supply, wholesalers are hiking cigarette prices by 10-20% in Twin Cities. This is causing distress among regular users and buyers. They urged manufacturers to increase supply and wholesalers to maintain fair prices.
They also reminded that the GST on tobacco would come into effect from February 1, 2026. But the traders and wholesalers were hoarding the products and causing inconvenience and harassment to the regular consumers, they stated.
