Odisha’s Progressive Growth is Shaping a Distinct State Identity: Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati
HYDERABAD, FEBRUARY 07, 2026: A media delegation from Telangana, led by PIB called on the Governor of Odisha, Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, at Lok Bhavan on Saturday. Welcoming the delegation, the Governor shared insights into Odisha’s development journey and its growing contribution to national progress.
Addressing the media representatives, the Governor said that Odisha has maintained consistent growth over the past few years and continues to strengthen its economic fundamentals. He noted that the State has achieved recognition as a revenue-surplus state and has carved out a distinct identity at the national level. The Governor also acknowledged the sustained support of the Central Government in Odisha’s development efforts.
Dr Kambhampati highlighted major infrastructure initiatives underway in the State. He said that steps are being taken to provide railway connectivity to all districts, while several important National Highways pass through Odisha. Infrastructure projects related to highways and railways, with a total investment exceeding ₹1.30 lakh crore, are currently under implementation. He added that the recently announced semiconductor project and National Waterway-5 will further accelerate the State’s development.
Referring to Odisha’s natural advantages, the Governor said the State has a long coastline and key ports such as Paradip, Dhamra and Gopalpur, supported by strong connectivity networks. Odisha is also rich in mineral resources, including coal, iron ore, bauxite, manganese and chromite, which has contributed to rapid industrial growth. “Revenue generated from mining and industrial activities is being effectively utilised for development works”, he added.
The Governor also highlighted progress in the agriculture sector, stating that Odisha has emerged as one of the leading states in the production and consumption of millets. He said several innovative initiatives have been undertaken to strengthen agricultural growth and farmers’ livelihoods.
Appreciating the State’s rich cultural heritage, Dr Kambhampati said that Odisha’s handicrafts and handloom products reflect its unique identity. Sambalpuri sarees, Maniabandha and Ganjam handlooms, Kotpad fabrics, brass and bell-metal works, Cuttack filigree, Pipili applique and Raghurajpur Pattachitra enjoy wide recognition and demand both in India and abroad.
The Governor further noted that Bhubaneswar is fast emerging as a major centre for education and skill development. Institutions such as IIT, AIIMS, NISER and the World Skill Centre have been established in and around the capital, creating a conducive ecosystem for the State’s overall growth.
The Telangana media delegation, led by Varganti Gayathri, Media Communication Officer of PIB Hyderabad, expressed appreciation for Odisha’s development and shared their experiences of visiting the State.
Assistant Director of PIB Bhubaneswar, Mahendra Prasad Jena, Media and Communication Officer Swadhin Shakti Prasad, were present during the interaction along with Senior officials of Lok Bhavan.
