
KARIMNAGAR, SEPTEMBER 10, 2025: World Suicide Prevention Day was observed by the Department of Psychiatry in Chalemeda Ananda Rao Institute of Medical Sciences (CAIMS) in Karimnagar on Wednesday.
This year’s theme is “Changing the Narrative on Suicide”. “It calls on us to speak more openly about mental health, reduce stigma, and stand beside those in need. With kindness and understanding, we can build a safer, more hopeful world for everyone.
CAIMS Principal Dr Asim Ali said around 8 lakh people committed suicide worldwide every year and of these, 1.35 lakh were Indian residents. Every 40 seconds, a life is lost to suicide as per the WHO data.
Globally, three out of every five people visit a doctor with respect to stress-related problems such as sleeping disorders and headaches. Around 50 per cent of employees in India are under stress, 30 per cent have problems of addiction and marital discord, and 10 per cent suffer from depression, he stated Vice Principal Dr Anitha, Superintendent Dr Ramachandra Prasad, Psychiatry HoD Dr Pawan Kumar, Associate professor Dr Preethi, Assistantn Professor Dr Ravi Kumar, Peadiatrics HoD Dr Ramya, Cancer Hospital HoD Dr Eliza Rani, general medicine HoD Dr Sanjay and others were also present.
