Global mining operations through Singareni Global: CMD Mr N. Balram
HYDERABAD, OCTOBER 29, 2025: When every task or process is transparent, the need for vigilance becomes minimal. However, when systems are flawed, there is room for irregularities and corruption, stated Mr A.P.V.N. Sharma, former Chairman and Managing Director of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). He was speaking as the chief guest at the Vigilance Awareness Week celebrations held on Wednesday at Singareni Bhavan, Hyderabad.
The programme was presided over by SCCL CMD Mr N. Balaram. In his address, Mr Sharma briefly recalled the reforms introduced during his tenure in Singareni. He expressed satisfaction over the company’s growth and expansion beyond coal mining, calling it a progressive move. He further noted that the global demand for coal is declining, with several countries already stopping coal mining operations. He appreciated Singareni’s efforts to expand its presence to other Indian states and even abroad, terming it a commendable development.
Speaking on the occasion, CMD Mr Balram lauded Mr Sharma as the visionary leader who revitalized Singareni at a time when the company was on the verge of closure around 1998. He informed that, as part of business diversification, Singareni has commenced a coal block project in Odisha, is collaborating with the Government of Rajasthan to set up solar and thermal power plants, and is also undertaking gold and copper exploration in Karnataka. He added that Singareni is transforming into a Green Energy enterprise and will soon expand under the banner of Singareni Global Limited, focusing on international mining activities.
During the event, Directors L.V. Suryanarayana, K. Venkateswarlu, Goutham Potru, and M. Tirumala Rao, along with several senior officials, expressed their gratitude and recalled Sri Sharma’s remarkable services. The former CMD was felicitated on the occasion. Executive Director (Coal Movement) and Chief Vigilance Officer Venkanna delivered the vote of thanks.
The program was attended by GM (Coordination) T. Srinivas, all Area GMs, Corporate GMs, Department Heads, and senior officials from various wings of Singareni.
