
HYDERABAD, SEPTEMBER 21, 2025: Retired IAS and former Prasar Bharathi CEO Khambhampati Subramanya Sharma (80) (popularly called as KS Sharma) has passed away on Saturday due to age-related ailments in Hyderabad.
He is survived by his wife and two children. His last rites would be performed in Hyderabad on Monday.
1968 batch IAS officer belonging to Andhra Pradesh cadre also worked as Director-General of Doordarshan. He was instrumental in the unprecedented growth of the public broadcaster, both in terms of programming and commercial revenue. He was credited to the success of DD News during his tenure Director-General of Doordarshan. He launched the DTH of Doordarshan.
He was the founder CEO of Sri Venkateshwara Bakthi Channel (SVBC) and Chief Officer in former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao’s PMO. As Union education secretary, he was instrumental in the formation of Navodaya educational institutions.
As Collector in the integrated Karimnagar district, he was instrumental in the strengthening of the Nehru Yuva Kendra. He took several measures for the development of the Satavahana University PG college on the shores of LMD reservoir and the RTC Workshop on Jagtial road by organising cultural programmes to seek donations.
