KARIMNAGAR, JULY 30, 2025: Proliferating private hostels in Thimmapur mandal on the outskirts of Karimnagar town, before the popular engineering colleges, are reportedly harassing the students by demanding huge fees and not handing over luggage when they vacate the hostel, demanding huge payments.
Several private hostels set up allegedly illegally, flouting norms, have mushroomed around the private engineering colleges in Thimmapur manda,l and they lured the students promising several sops, including free wi-fi and more, including quality food etc. When the students feel they have joined the wrong place, the private hostel managements were harassing the students by not givingthem their luggage, demanding them to pay three months’ hostel mess charges for leaving the hostel abruptly.
A girl student said that the management had promised free wi-fi, but they are now demanding Rs 500 per month. The private hostel management said that they would collect only Rs 4,000 per month, but when I said that I would be leaving the hostel, they charged Rs 250 per day for 10 days, she alleged. She also charged that they do not provide food to their parents and take a one-year bond letter forcibly.
Another girl student studying in a private engineering college and staying in a private hostel in the vicinity of the college had fallen ill due to poor quality food, saying that she had joined the hostel attracted by their offers. But it is all false, she noted. She said that she was being harassed by not being given her luggage in spite of vacating the hostel, demanding the payment of three months’ mess charges. Some of the students had even approached the LMD police for justice and to stop harassment from the private hostels, the sources said.
Students complained that the teenage boy, son of the hostel owners, also visits the hostel frequently and cause embarrassing situations to the girls residing in the hostel. urged the district authorities to focus on the functioning of private hostels in and around Karimnagar town, as they were playing with the lives of gullible rural masses.
