
HYDERABAD, JANUARY 30, 2025: The prizes were distributed to the participants of the World Arabic Language Day, which was observed on December 18, 2024, at New Government Degree College for Women, Golconda, Hyderabad, on Thursday.
World Arabic Language Day is celebrated every year on 18 December since 2012. The date coincides with the day in 1973 that the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted Arabic as the sixth official language of the Organization.
Osmania University, Head department of Arabic, Chairperson of Board of Studies, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Prof Syeda Talath Sultana participated as chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Talath Sultana said that the Arabic language is a pillar of the cultural diversity of humanity. It is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, used daily by more than 400 million people. The Arabic language is important for many reasons, including its religious significance, its role in international trade, and its contributions to science, art, and culture.
Religious significance

* Learning Arabic can help Muslims deepen their connection to the Quran and their religious practices.
* Non-Muslims can learn Arabic to gain insight into Islamic culture and practices.

Contributions to science, art, and culture
* Arabic has influenced other languages, especially in science, mathematics, and philosophy.
* Arabic calligraphy is an intricate art form that originated in the early Islamic era.
* Arabic scientific texts have contributed to astronomy, medicine, and chemistry.
Official language
* Arabic is the official language of 26 countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

In an another programme, the college in collaboration with the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) organised one day National webinar on “Financial Education a Life Skills under NEP 2020” by Resource Person Surya Kant Sharma, Senior Consultant AMFI, EX DGM SEBI. HoD Commerce N Jayashree and others also participated.
