HYDERABAD, JANUARY 13, 2025: The Tamil diaspora in PBEL City, Peeramcheruvu, infused the Pongal celebration with authentic rural spirit and gaiety, culminating in a traditional feast.
Away from their native places, more than 2000 families came together to enjoy a two-day-long celebration in a true traditional way.
This year’s celebrations featured Kho-Kho competitions for residents, various cultural programmes, a village fair experience, a bullock cart display, and a traditional Tamil-style Pongal feast.
“The event served not only as a festival celebration but also as a platform for strengthening community bonding and passing on Tamil culture and traditions to the younger generation,” said Priyanka Reghuraman, secretary of the Tamil Association.

For the past five years, residents of PBEL City have been celebrating Pongal in traditional Tamil style, recreating the vibrant atmosphere of village festivities within their residential community.
“Due to work commitments and children’s school schedules, many families were unable to visit their native villages. To keep our cultural roots alive, we decided to bring the essence of village Pongal celebrations and fairs to their community,” according to Prasanna Ganesh, one of the organisers.
