NEW DELHI, JULY 24, 2025: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah will unveil the National Cooperative Policy 2025 on 24th July 2025 (5 PM) at Atal Akshay Urja Bhawan, New Delhi. This landmark event marks a significant step towards rejuvenating India’s cooperative movement for the next two decades, 2025–2045.
The new policy aims to empower and modernise the cooperative sector, making it a central pillar of the ‘Sahkar se Samriddhi’ vision. It also seeks to align cooperatives with the national goal of Viksit Bharat @2047, promoting sustainable livelihoods, professional governance, and grassroots economic development.
The 2025 policy replaces the earlier National Cooperative Policy of 2002, taking into account the profound socio-economic and technological changes that have occurred over the past two decades. The new policy is designed to make cooperatives more vibrant, inclusive, and efficient in the context of the current economic landscape.
Prepared by a 48-member National Level Committee headed by former Union Minister Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, the policy reflects a participatory and inclusive approach. The committee engaged in 17 meetings and 4 regional workshops held in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Gurugram, and Patna. It reviewed 648 suggestions received from stakeholders, ensuring that the final document is comprehensive and representative of grassroots voices.
Key dignitaries, including members of the drafting committee, chairpersons and MDs of national cooperative unions, senior officials of the Ministry of Cooperation, NCDC, NCCT, and VAMNICOM, will grace the occasion.
The National Cooperative Policy 2025 is set to create large-scale employment and livelihood opportunities, particularly in rural India, while revitalising the cooperative sector to meet the demands of a changing India.
