NIRMAL, FEBRUARY 04, 2026: The women police are playing a key role in policing to enhance community safety, combating ganja cultivation and reducing drug abuse, and even conducting drunken driving in the morning hours in the Nirmal district.
As part of ‘Nari Shakthi’, an initiative launched by Nirmal Superintendent of Police Dr G Janaki Sharmila on every Wednesday, is yielding good results in the district, with all women police teams conducting policing to the satisfaction of the people of the district. Also known as the ‘Police Akka’ (police sister) programme, the women police constables conduct patrolling and conduct awareness programmes by visiting schools and colleges.

Accordingly, the women constables of respective police stations in the district were conducting patrolling throughout the day and also responding to Dial 100 calls and providing necessary assistance to the complainants.

The Mudhole women police, who received a call from a woman who dialled 100 and had stated that her husband was harassing her after consuming in an inebriated condition, had counselled both the couple by visiting the spot.
The women cops were also creating awareness about cybercrime and educating them to dial 1930 when they face any cybercrime. They were also educating the people not to give vehicles to minors to drive, as it may cause serious problems to the children and their parents.
The women police also conducted a drive against drunken driving and educated the people on ganja, adulterated toddy, etc. Their work extends beyond schools. The initiative has taken up the fight against ganja cultivation and drug abuse, with women constables patrolling vulnerable areas, creating awareness among the youth and sensitising communities about the dangers of narcotics. SP Sharmila has urged them to take personal responsibility for eradicating ganja-related activities in their jurisdictions. Under ‘Mission Ganja Patrol’, participating officers have been equipped with badges, bags and T-shirts as symbols of their commitment.
