
NEW DELHI, AUGUST 1, 2025: Union Minister of Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw has informed that the completion of the ambitious Kothapalli-Manoharabad railway project connecting Karimnagar with Hyderabad will depend on the timely acquisition of land and the deposit of the Telangana government’s share.
Responding to a question raised by B Parthasaradhi Reddy on the delay in the execution of Manoharabad-Kothapalli and Badrachala-Kovvur railway projects in the Rajya Sabha on Friday, the Union Railway Minister said that Manoharabad-Kothapalli new line project was sanctioned on cost sharing basis with State Government of Telangana, in which Government of Telangana has to provide land free of cost and share 1/3 rd construction cost of the project. The total length of the project is 151 Kms, out of which 76 Kms length between Manoharabad- Siddipet has been completed. Work has been taken up in the balance section i.e. Siddipet-Kothapalli.
Out of total requirement of 1145.6 Ha land for this project, 1049.5 Ha land has been acquired and balance 96.1 Ha land is yet to be acquired by the Government of Telangana. An amount of Rs.. 416 cr out of Rs. 926.93 Cr has been deposited by the State Government. Balance amount to be deposited by the State Govt of Telangana is Rs. 511.20 Cr. Execution of the project depends on the timely acquisition of land for the project and the deposit of shares bythe State Govt.
Bhadrachalam Kovvur (119 Km) New Line project was sanctioned on 50% cost-sharing basis with the Government of Andhra Pradesh at an anticipated cost of Rs.. 2155 crore. Bhadrachalam-Satupalli (56.25 km) new line project has already been completed in May 2022. The Government of Andhra Pradesh has been requested to reaffirm their consent for sharing cost of the project.
The completion of any Railway project depends on various factors like quick land acquisition by State Government, forest clearance by officials of forest department, deposition of cost share by State Government in cost sharing projects, priority of projects, shifting of infringing utilities, statutory clearances from various authorities, geological and topographical conditions of area, law and order situation in the area of project(s) site, number of working months in a year for particular project site due to climatic conditions etc.
