Delivering Janadharma MS Acharya 7th Endowment Lecture on ‘Shifting Standards in Journalism and Literature’ held in the Senate Hall of the Kakatiya University on Friday, Krishna Rao underscored that journalism ought to be the central concern of a journalist, stressing the importance of societal comprehension and linguistic skills. He commended MS Acharya’s contributions to journalism, stating, “Literature acts as a mirror to society, and the Janadharma and Warangal Vani newspapers have played a crucial role in nurturing many journalists. Indian epics go beyond being mere religious scriptures; they embody the values embedded in our culture.”
Recognising the profound influence of Acharya’s newspapers on the development of Kakatiya University, KMC, REC, and the Railway Coach Factory, Krishna Rao called upon journalists to uphold objectivity. He voiced his apprehension regarding the growing confusion between truth and falsehood, worsened by the impact of social media and the spread of misinformation. “Questioning spirit is what we have to learn from our puranas and myths. The Ramayana and Mahabharata should not be dismissed merely as religious texts. They teach us that evil should be rooted out and the good should always win over the evil,” said Krishna Rao. He urged today’s youth to foster a mindset that challenges the injustices and discrimination prevalent in the system. Presiding over the Endowment Lecture, Vice Chancellor of Kakatiya University Prof K Pratap Reddy lauded MS Acharya’s contributions to Telugu journalism and remarked, “M.S. Acharya is an exceptional individual who has shouldered the responsibilities of journalism even during challenging times.” Son of MS Acharya and former Dean of Faculty of Arts and Retired Professor of English of Kakatiya University, Prof M Rajagopalacharya, introduced his father to the audience and former Central Information Commissioner Prof Sridharacharya explained the activities of MS Acharya Foundation. Registrar Prof V Ramachandram and University PRO Dr Prithvi Raju also spoke on the occasion.
