IR is the best option for the treatment of all ailments, including cancer
KARIMNAGAR, OCTOBER 15, 2025: Interventional radiology is gaining popularity due to its ability to provide precise, minimally invasive treatments guided by advanced imaging, resulting in faster recovery times, lower risks, and cost-effectiveness compared to traditional surgery. This precision allows specialists to target specific areas with minimal trauma, treating a wide range of conditions from cancer to vascular diseases, said Dr Sri Harish, Interventional Neuro Radiologist, Yashoda Hospital, Somajiguda, Hyderabad.
Talking to newsmen at Yashoda Health Centre in Karimnagar town on Wednesday, Dr Sri Harish said that the interventional radiology (IR), which has emerged as a third line of treatment in addition to its supportive role in surgical procedures, can work wonders in the treatment of brain stroke, clotting, bleeding, cancers, uterine bleeding, varicose veins, etc. The IR can be a complete therapeutic option reaching places in the liver, kidney, brain, uterus, heart, lungs and more, he added.
For instance, in case of excessive bleeding, uterine bleeding or post partum bleeding, removal of the uterus is the only option, he said and added that, however, with IR, we can access the exact place of rupture and close it off. There are several cases in which radiology has a cutting edge and can prevent the need for a big surgery, although not in all cases.
Dr Sri Harish said that interventional radiology has a very important role and is prominent in the world, and added that plugging a leaking blood vessel, opening a blocked vessel or dilating a narrowed vessel, repairing of rupture, narrowing and blocking of the aorta, bursting a clot in a brain stroke, etc, are parts of the speciality. He also said that Interventional Radiology is the best option for the treatment of various types of cancer, including prostate cancer, with precise treatment.
