KARIMNAGAR, OCTOBER 31, 2025: An enlightening and informative lecture on “Lichens as Bio-Indicators of Pollution” was organised by the Department of Botany, SRR Government Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Karimnagar. The programme was held under the guidance of the Head of the Department, Thiru Kovela Srinivas, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from both degree and postgraduate students, as well as NSS volunteers.
The keynote address was delivered by Adepu Srinivas, Senior Professor of Botany, who spoke extensively about the origin, types, structure, and ecological importance of lichens. He highlighted their role as pollution-indicator plants and explained how lichens serve as vital tools in assessing environmental health and ecosystem balance.
Srinivas also discussed the economic significance and successional roles of lichens in nature, emphasizing their contribution to biodiversity and ecological restoration. His talk inspired students to understand the importance of lichens in environmental studies and pollution control.
The event was chaired by Thiru Kovela Srinivas, Head of the Department of Botany. Faculty members Routhu Radhakrishna, Mohammed Tahir Hussain, Padala Thirupathi, Kandukuri Kalajyothi, Bunga Thirupathi, Mohammed Tajuddin, and Asampalli Swaroopa Rani actively participated and appreciated the insightful session.
