Irrigation projects filled to the brim; flood gates opened
KARIMNAGAR, AUGUST 28, 2025: Heavy rains, which have disrupted normal life, have forced the authorities to close the educational institutions in Karimnagar, Rajanna-Sircilla and Jagtial districts on Thursday.
Incessant rains were witnessed from Wednesday afternoon onwards in the districts, forcing heavy inflows into all irrigation projects in the integrated Karimnagar district.
About 18 flood gates of Mid Manair Dam (Sri Rajeshwara reservoir) in Kodurupaka village of Boinpalli in Rajanna-Sircilla district were lifted on Thursday morning, releasing 56,000 cusecs of water downstream into the Lower Manair Dam (LMD) in Karimnagar town. In a few days, the LMD will be filled to the brim.
The Uppar Manaiar Dam (Narmal) project in Gambhiraopet is also filled to its brim with an outflow of 80,743 cusecs downstream into MMD. The UMD capacity is 2 tmcs and dam height is 1482.50 feet. Following the overflowing of the water, the road had been blocked by the police. Collector Sandeep Kumar Jha visited the spot.
