
Awareness Programme Highlights the Impact of Technology on Students’ Mental Health
HYDERABAD, OCTOBER 10, 2025: The Government Degree College, Rajendranagar (Shamshabad), observed World Mental Health Day by organising an awareness programme to promote mental and emotional well-being among students on Friday. The event aimed to educate students on the importance of maintaining good mental health amidst growing digital distractions and technological dependence.
Principal Mekala Himabindu presided over the meeting and delivered an insightful address on how to maintain mental balance despite various distractions. She emphasised the need for emotional health, explaining how excessive use of mobile phones and social media is affecting students’ concentration and interpersonal relationships. Himabindu urged students to cultivate self-control and engage in positive offline activities to enhance their mental strength.
Vice Principal G. Bhanu Prakash enlightened the students on the advantages and disadvantages of technology. He advised students to use technology productively for learning purposes while avoiding excessive screen time and mobile addiction.
Ravinder Reddy, Assistant Professor of Economics, also spoke on the responsible use of mobile phones. He shared practical tips on how to manage time effectively, reduce dependency on gadgets, and use digital tools in a balanced way.
A few students also came forward to share their views and personal experiences regarding mental health and mobile usage, making the session interactive and thought-provoking.
Following the awareness session, the college conducted an essay writing competition on the topic “The Impact of Social Media on Students’ Mental Health.” A large number of students participated enthusiastically, expressing their opinions creatively.
The event concluded on a positive note, with faculty members and students reaffirming their commitment to fostering a healthy mind and balanced lifestyle in the digital age.
