RAJANNA-SIRCILLA, JULY 27, 2024: To commemorate the death anniversary of Former President and ‘Missile man’ of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Telangana state Commissioner of Medical and Health, Family Welfare RV Karnan had instructed the medical department to celebrate the day to impart CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) or ‘Punarjanma’ programme to the people on Saturday.
Accordingly, District Medical and Health Officer Dr M Vasanth Rao in association with the Critical Care doctors of Renee hospital, Karimnagar, conducted a CPR training for the district officials of Rajanna-Sircilla district on the premises of Collectorate. Incidentally, Collector Sandeep Kumar Jha, Additional Collector Kheemya Naik and other district officials participated in the training on CPR.
Reminding that the former President APJ Abdul Kalam could have been saved had someone in the audience of IIM-Shillong performed CPR when he suddenly collapsed while delivery a lecture, the Critical care doctors of Renee hospital Dr Lathish Reddy said Dr Kalam suffered a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), a sudden interruption in electrical impulses causes the heart to stop beating. As the heart stops supplying blood to the brain and other vital organs, the brain starts to die within three minutes. He said that the patients suffering SCA can be saved if all people know cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Collector Sandeep Kumar Jha had personally learned the CPR techniques to save lives. He informed the district officials to learn CPR, which would help during emergencies and save a life. He also urged the people to learn CPR and help others. He said that the SCA patients should be tapped on face and shoulders to check response. Thereafter one should check pulse and breathing. If the pulse and breath is missing, CPR should be started and continued till medical help arrives, he informed.
Dr M Vasanth Rao, who took charge as new DMHO of the district, said that they would impart training on CPR to all sections of society. Besides, he would also take measures for organising special medical camps to screen for heart ailments and provide necessary medical assistance in the district. Renee hospitals chairman Dr Bangari Swamy, Rajani Fertility Centre Dr Bangari Rajani Priyadarshini, general manager Aravind Rao, Marketing manager Prasad, bio medical staff Praful, Prashanth and others were also present.
